Just changed: Member Bio and Profile Avatar Cropper

Evening folks,

Couple of new updates here on the preview site. With a little luck 🤞 you shouldn’t notice any difference, but we wanted to give you the chance to investigate..

Member Bio

Over on your profile page, we give you the option to write (upto) a few lines about yourself, for other members to see. This particular code has had quite a major revamp under the covers, but hopefully it will still behave in the same way you’ve been using it all along.

Again on your profile page, when you upload a custom image to use as your community avatar, we offer the chance to crop the image down, if you wish. The components behind this functionality have been upgraded, which should give a smoother experience when uploading and cropping from a mobile device. (sorry, animated GIFs are still converted to a static image 🙁 )

You’ll agree that neither of these changes are groundbreaking, but deserve to be checked out regardless.

As always, let us know if you spot anything out of place!

ianmorland seems to be OK. I’d hate “parsips” too if I knew what they were. 😛 😃

I probably know what the answer is going to be but it would be great if we could upload images to our bio to jazz them up!?

I have failed to be able to even upload a profile avatar this time around. At first I thought it might be my intermittent upload photo problem (where my photos disappear when I want to upload them, but can take new photo) but nothing is uploading, let alone offering me an opportunity to crop.

ianmorland Just tried to upload an avatar, picked a simple small pic off the HDD, it uploads and shows up on screen very briefly but then the window goes all black 🙁 Only the page in that tab, the mouse pointer is reacting to movement so it seems to think I can see what’s there, I think it’s getting to the crop screen as I could just see a button at the bottom before it all went black.

For reference I’m using Firefox on Linux Mint 19.3.

EDIT:- Changing the profile text works fine, it’s not expanded a smile though 🙁

Very very possible, technically at least, as there’s already a Flarum extension to do just that. 🙂

Perhaps raise it in the feedback section, and the likes of @alex_w and co can consider if it’s something we should have on the community?

jesi23 yes I did crop my picture before uploading.

jesi23 I even tried removing the default avatar when nothing happened after I chose a picture from my Photo Library on the iPad.
It just told me I couldn’t do it but still didn’t let a photo be uploaded for my avatar.
I CAN upload photos in posts, so that’s not the problem. _{_🤡}
