Orrr it might also be to do with the fact that 4.4 KitKat is coming up on being 8 years old now, and running modern Android on 8 year old processors wouldn’t be usable. Though, people are still getting the Galaxy S2 (partially) working on Android 11.
I wouldn’t even want to try Android 10/11 on my S3 – I remember installing Android 8 and it was incredibly painful to use.
Google need to stop backporting features to older versions of Android eventually, and it’s because of this that apps start requiring newer versions on Android to run, though, to be fair, a surprising number of apps will still work on 4.4 KitKat if they use the right backwards-compatibility libraries when developing!
